IMPROVING Farmland eNV.

I’ve been focused on the Farmland and Mountain environments due to them being built in Unreal, unlike the other Environments that we’re transferred over from Blender and rebuilt.

Farmland Env. V1

At first, our references had corn stocks, so I started with that.

V1

Takeaways

Positives:

  • Atmospheric Fog adds depth

  • Blueprinting massive amounts of foliage works similarly to the foliage tool

Negatives:

  • Looks uniform

  • Background doesn’t blend in

We talked as a team and we decided to pivot to wheat.

Farmland Env. V2

Takeaways

Positives:

  • Wheat look more randomized/natural

  • Hill hides the infinite background

  • Able to use a Landscape Material that adds a massive amount of foliage with little affect on FPS

Negatives:

  • Not enough depth in the scene

Luckily with our Landscape tool it’s easy to move our hill back to create more depth.

Takeaways

Positives:

  • More depth created by further hills

Negatives:

  • Want to add more signs of life near the old house
